Read the source registry

Call GET /api/v1/sources with sources:read. The response gives you source IDs, supported subject types, availability, and current versions. Use these fields to choose coverage for your request. Also read the jurisdiction and category: a financial sanctions list and an enforcement register answer different questions.

Check the sources and timestamps returned for your key's environment. The dataset directory describes each source and links to its public records. The coverage guides explain scope. A sanctions entry, a regulatory action, and a public-office record do not mean the same thing. Select the sources your process needs.

Build a source selector from the actual response

GET /sources takes no path parameters, query parameters or request body. Send only your Authorization: Bearer header with a sources:read key. The source IDs in its response become values in a later screening or monitor request; they are not inputs to source discovery. Authentication is documented separately from endpoint-specific parameters.

GET /sources returns {data:[SourceStatus,...]}, not data.items and not a packages array. Each source exposes id, capabilities, category, jurisdiction, availability, rightsStatus, qualification, fresh, currentVersion and lastImport. Select by id; names are display labels. A source may support only some entity types.

currentVersion is the version in the active dataset or null. lastImport can describe a later unqualified attempt and must not be substituted as active evidence. qualification distinguishes implemented, fixtureTested, liveFetchTested, rightsApproved and activated. Availability and freshness can change between discovery and screening; the screening request rechecks coverage and can fail even if the selector was previously available.

The registry describes production source readiness; sandbox@1 is a separate invented dataset for integration testing. The public dataset directory is explanatory, not proof that a source is activated in your environment. For production, select explicit currently available source IDs or a documented immutable package. Every requested package member must be available; the server will not silently shrink the package.

Use source IDs in a production request

This is a request-shape example, not a claim that these sources are currently active. Verify all requested IDs through /sources and ensure person appears in each source’s capabilities. Use a production key, active entitlement, and a policy reference when organization governance requires one. The submitted subject remains invented for illustration.

Do not send package alongside sources. Keep the entire requested selection with your business operation so a later retry cannot accidentally change the scope. Follow screenings for the Authorization and Idempotency-Key headers.

Choose one selection method

A screening supplies sources, an array of stable IDs, or package, an exact versioned package identifier. Do not send both. Package membership belongs to its version; adding a source requires a new package version. Sandbox requests use sandbox@1.

The us-enforcement@1 package covers OCC enforcement actions and the two FTC debt-industry ban lists, supporting person and organization requests. BIS boycott requesters and FDIC failed banks remain separately selectable reference sources with their own supported entity types. The us-healthcare@1 package covers HHS-OIG and the seven implemented state exclusion feeds. These sources have different meanings: reference data, enforcement actions and program exclusions do not all impose financial sanctions. Check current availability before requesting a package.

Unknown source IDs and packages are rejected. Required sources that are disabled, unqualified, absent from the active release, or outside the freshness policy cause an error. The server does not silently omit a member to return no_match. Keep a distinct coverage-unavailable state in your application.

Understand the coverage counts

An available screening source has passed current qualification, activation, and freshness checks. The registered adapter count also includes integrations that are unavailable. Reference profiles add context but cannot be used as screening source IDs.

The status page tracks source refresh operations, so its count can differ from the screening catalog. Source-record counts may overlap: one entity can appear in several records or lists. Do not treat the total as a count of unique people or organizations.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know whether a source is available to my API request?

Read GET /api/v1/sources using the key for the intended environment. Check the source ID, availability, freshness, supported subject types, and active version. A public source description or implemented adapter does not by itself establish that your request can use it.

Should a screening request use sources or package?

Use sources to name the individual source IDs you require. Use package to select a package with an exact version and fixed membership. Send one selector, not both. A source added to a package requires a new package version; sandbox requests use sandbox@1.

What happens when one required source in a package is unavailable?

The screening fails. SanctionsKit does not silently remove the source and return no_match. Keep the check incomplete while you resolve the source gap. The same applies when required data is too stale or is absent from the active release.
